Packaging Overview
vSphere with Operations Management Editions and vSphere Editions
You may wonder why “Storage APIs for Array Integration, Multipathing” isnt included in vSphere Standard and vSphere with Operations Management Standard. What does this mean? Its simple to anwser. Multipathing for blockbased Storage, ISCSI, FC and FCOE Arrays in Standard Editions function the same way as in the Enterprise and Enterprise Plus Editions. eg MRU, Fixed and Round Robin. You can have multiple active Path if you wish and configure it and if the storage and components support it. For further detailed explaination what behind “Storage APIs for Array Integration, Multipathing” stands, you can read an excellent blog post written by Josh Townsend.
vSphere with Operations Management Acceleration Kits and vSphere Essential Kits
A big difference between vSphere with Operations Management Acceleration Kits and Essential Kits is that the Essential Kits function as single entity, while vSphere with Operations Management Accelerations Kits decompose into their individual kit components after purchase. That means that each component of the kit can be upgraded and SnS renewed by its own. That also means that vSphere essential kits cant grow more than 3 ESXi hosts.
vCenter Server Editions
vCenter Server is available in the following packages
- vCenter Server Essentials – Integrated management for vSphere Essential Kits
- vCenter Server Foundation – Centralized management for up to three vSphere hosts
- vCenter Server Standard – Highly scaleable managemtn with rapid provisioning, monitoring, orchestration and control of all virtual machines in a vSphere enviroment
Only vCenter Standard includes vCenter Orchestrator and vCenter Server Linked Mode
